DOCUMENTATION 》 TOFFEE Data-Center optimized Internet of Things (IoT) Platform

The Internet of Things (IoT) is revolutionizing the world in more ways than most people realize. Market research shows that, the global market for IoT in 2020 is going to be worth $500 billion in terms of sales. Hardware will account for 70% of sales - devices ranging from smart homes to connected cars and personal wearable technology. This platform needs back-end infrastructure, hardware, software and analytics required to turn the copious amounts of data generated by IoT hardware (sensors, etc) into usable information and in turn may feed AI.

When the personal computer (PC) revolution started during the 1970s and 1980s, it was mostly limited to developed countries such as US, UK and so on initially. Only in the much later stages, when prices of computers dropped significantly, did this revolution go global and penetrated developing countries. Similar trend can be observed in dot-com boom as well. But unlike previous tech revolutions, IoT is a global revolution from Day One.

The Real Challenge!
The data monitored across these IoT hardware sources can be fed into central data-center upon which big data analytics can be performed in real-time. But the challenge is often the data where it is being produced (data source) is situated at offshore remote sites (IoT hardware sensors). And this is the real challenge.

Big Data Analytics - data source vs data-center connectivity - the real challenge

Addressing the same via TOFFEE DataCenter platform:
This data produced this way is quite unique and discrete unlike a traditional TCP session based data (such as user browsing data). TOFFEE is specifically architected keeping this aspect in mind so that it can optimize wide variety of use-cases unlike a simple traditional outdated WAN Optimization approach.

Benchmark Raspberry Pi and other embedded SoC with TrueBench ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
TrueBench is an unique open-source benchmarking system in which the core system performance and efficiency parameters are measured at extreme high resolution in the order of several million/billion ยต-seconds for a given specific task. TrueBench is a part of The TOFFEE Project research. With TrueBench Raspberry Pi 3, Raspberry Pi 2B and Raspberry Pi 2 are benchmarked and you can do a comparative analysis with standard mainstream x86 devices.

Why TOFFEE is forked from TrafficSqueezer ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
TrafficSqueezer is an open-source WAN Optimization project. TrafficSqueezer is mainly a research project which is started around mid-2006. It is initially started as a research (or prototype) code even before it is officially registered in Sourceforge.net. But this code is just primitive user-space raw socket modules. This is later refined and a pre-alpha version is created. Followed by which Alpha release. This prototype code is moved from user-space to Linux Kernel (Kernel Space) and then the journey begin in terms of making a serious WAN Optimization solution. Once the pre-beta and beta releases are complete the mainstream series is started.

Communication data network standards and data transfer speeds :: Chart ↗

Here is a complete chart comprising popular communication data network standards and their respective transfer rates. I hope this reference chart will help network engineers and network software developers while performing networking tests and experiments, building WAN/network products, building WAN simulated networks of a specific standard and so on. This may also helps us to track technological advancements of communication data networks.

Raspberry Pi as a Networking Device ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Raspberry Pi is often used as a single board computer for applications such as IoT, hobby projects, DIY, education aid, research and prototyping device. But apart from these applications Raspberry Pi can be used for real-world applications such as in making a full-fledged networking devices. Raspberry Pi is a single board ARM based hardware which is why it is also classified as ARM based SoC. Since it is ARM based it is highly efficient, tiny form-factor and lower in power consumption with moderate computational power. This will allow it to work several hours on emergency battery backup power supply such as low-cost domestic UPS and or some renewable energy source, which is a prerequisite for a typical networking device.

Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
I started TOFFEE-Mocha WAN Emulation software development on 1-June-2016. I took the existing TOFFEE components as a base. Although the TOFFEE-Mocha is entirely an independent fresh Open-Source WAN Emulation solution. Ever since I am in the process of defining and inventing features. So far I come up with the most important feature which is expected to be present in any WAN Emulation software is the packet delay option.

CDN Hosting ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
It is quite interesting that there are few web hosting firms are offering direct CDN based hosting services. Since it is a direct CDN based hosting, it is cheap, extremely easy or transparent CDN service. It is transparent, since each time you publish your content in the hosting web-server (origin server), it is immediately is in sync automatically in the user-serving CDN caching machines. Since the hosting vendor and the CDN vendor are all the same, it is also easy to use their services. There is no incompatibility issues, interoperability issues, and better integrated analytics, are all the benefits of CDN Hosting services.
