RESEARCH 》 How to check a website using CDN ?

If you are new to CDN Technology, you can read the Introduction of CDN (Content Delivery Networks or Content Distribution Networks) over HERE.

Using a CDN for a website is a always suggested based on the popularity of your website. But do you know how to check if a website is using a CDN ?

Here is how you can check quite easily.

Lets take for example Facebook. Open the Facebook website in your browser.

Do right-click and select the “View Page Source” option in the menu:
2-research-how-to-check-a-website-using-cdn-facebook-view-page-source

Now search for keywords such as “cdn”, “edge”, etc. You can find the website resources (such as scripts/images/etc) should be pointing to alternative links as shown below:
3-research-how-to-check-a-website-using-cdn-facebook-page-source

In this case Facebook contains the resources with URLs pointing to CDN hosted locations. As you can see it has the location “m-static.ak.fbcdn.net”. This stands for: Static Akamai Facebook CDN. So this is a clue that Facebook is majorly hosted on Akamai CDN.

But one should also understand since Facebook is so massive, Facebook may/will contain its own CDN (or cloud sort of) infrastructure. But if this goes beyond a massive scale, certainly they can get outside world CDN subscriptions as in this case they got via Akamai.

Let us see another example such as the website ComputerWorld online magazine.

In this case ComputerWorld is using the Edgesuite.net. Edgesuite.net is run by Akamai Technologies more specific for AD content. So once again we can see how a website uses a CDN Service.

In the case of Linkedin, it uses the Limelight CDN service/vendor. You can see the resource URLs containing static.licdn.com.

Building my own CDN - Finally Completed - Update: 17-Dec-2017 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Today I finally completed building my own private CDN. As I discussed so far in my earlier topics (Building my own CDN), I want to custom build the same step-by-step from scratch. And I don't want to for now use/buy third-party CDN subscriptions from Akamai, CloudFlare, Limelight, etc as I discussed earlier.

TOFFEE Benchmarks :: TOFFEE-1.1.28 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Here is the TOFFEE WAN Optimization benchmarks of the TOFFEE version: TOFFEE-1.1.28. This is the current TOFFEE development version till date (2-Jul-2016). This is a HPC TOFFEE variant meant for high-end custom build servers and high-end desktops (i.e High Performance Computing a.k.a HPC). TOFFEE built this way often needs customized kernel compilation and build such as processor specific and hardware specific tune-ups since it is highly CPU intensive (if not offloaded via Hardware Accelerator Cards).

Building my own CDN - choosing a web-hosting to deploy my CDN - Update: 28-July-2016 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
The TOFFEE Project website is hosted on Inmotion Hosting. And so I am looking for alternate hosting provider to build my first CDN node. My plan is to make multiple sub-domains of my website such as cdn1.the-toffee-project.org, cdn2.the-toffee-project.org and point each of this corresponding subdomain(s) to various alternative web hosting servers geographically spread across the world. Sometimes choosing the same vendor for multiple CDN nodes may result multiple servers existing in the data-center. And this becomes an issue if there is some catastrophic network disaster.

Now I supported and finished complete GUI support of these parameters so that you can configure, store, reboot and the same will restore upon reboot. Besides I complete the TOFFEE-Mocha Big-Picture page. The Big picture is an interface where you can find all the configuration (or settings) of the TOFFEE-Mocha. This is almost similar to CISCO device show all command but in graphical representation. Sometimes a network admin can also print the Big Picture page and paste it near to the device to refer its settings.

CDN Hosting ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
It is quite interesting that there are few web hosting firms are offering direct CDN based hosting services. Since it is a direct CDN based hosting, it is cheap, extremely easy or transparent CDN service. It is transparent, since each time you publish your content in the hosting web-server (origin server), it is immediately is in sync automatically in the user-serving CDN caching machines. Since the hosting vendor and the CDN vendor are all the same, it is also easy to use their services. There is no incompatibility issues, interoperability issues, and better integrated analytics, are all the benefits of CDN Hosting services.

TrueBench is an unique open-source benchmarking system in which the core system performance and efficiency parameters are measured at extreme high resolution in the order of several million/billion µ-seconds for a given specific task. TrueBench is a part of The TOFFEE Project research. With TrueBench Raspberry Pi 3, Raspberry Pi 2B and Raspberry Pi 2 are benchmarked and you can do a comparative analysis with standard mainstream x86 devices.
