NEWS & UPDATES 》 First TOFFEE-Butterscotch Code Release

TOFFEE-Butterscotch is a variant of TOFFEE can be used to save and optimize your Home/SOHO Internet/WAN bandwidth. Unlike TOFFEE (and TOFFEE-DataCenter) TOFFEE-Butterscotch is a non peer-to-peer (and asymmetric) network optimization solution. This makes TOFFEE-Butterscotch an ideal tool for all Home and SOHO users.

Here are my TOFFEE-Butterscotch software development updates which I posted earlier:

As a part of its first release these are the list of features supported:

  • Throttle: tcp (LAN to WAN traffic which is unidirectional)
  • Throttle: Torrent traffic (bidirectional)
  • Filter: incoming TCP-syn packets, ICMP (bidirectional) packets, and Torrent (bidirectional) packets
  • Monitor: network bandwidth usage report
  • Monitor: live performance stats
  • Alerts: Filter packets

NOTE: This is the first release of TOFFEE-Butterscotch open-source Bandwidth saver software. Currently as one can understand the features supported in the same is quite limited. But in future you should get more and more features being supported in the same. If you need any specific features, you can post your new feature requests to me, and if they are plausible they should get supported in the same eventually.

One of the suggestions Google PageSpeed Insights tool suggested for The TOFFEE Project website is to minify the css and java script files. Minify Script files: When you read online about minification of your web script files, often they highlight file size savings and thus resulting faster download time and better website performance.

Introducing TrueBench - a high resolution CPU benchmarking system ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
TrueBench is an unique open-source benchmarking system in which the core system performance and efficiency parameters are measured at extreme high resolution in the order of several million/billion µ-seconds for a given specific task. TrueBench is a part of The TOFFEE Project research. With TrueBench Raspberry Pi 3, Raspberry Pi 2B, Raspberry Pi 2 and other embedded SoC devices are benchmarked and you can do a comparative analysis with standard mainstream x86 devices.

TOFFEE-Mocha WAN Emulation software development - Update: 1-July-2016 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Today I got a feature request from Jonathan Withers. Jonathan is from a company called MultiWave Australia. He said he is able to get the TOFFEE-Mocha Raspberry Pi setup up and with that he is able to emulate geostationary satellite link. But he requested me is there a way to extend the constant packet delay from 40mS to 500mS. So as a part of his request I supported the same in the current ongoing development version of TOFFEE-Mocha.

TOFFEE-DataCenter WAN Optimization software development - Update: 13-Aug-2016 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Earlier the TOFFEE is intended to work on IoT devices, Satellite Networks, branch office/SOHO deployments. In most cases the users may deploy just one or couple of TOFFEE devices per site. But in the case of TOFFEE-DataCenter, users can scale-up deploying the same in multiple servers in a sort of distributed cluster computing scenario. Besides the core TOFFEE-DataCenter components (such as packet processing engine/framework), I need to do lot of changes in its Graphical User Interface (GUI) too to address these new requirements.

A study on Deep Space Networks (DSN) ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
When you are dealing Deep Space Networks (DSN) one among the most challenging parts is the Interplanetary distances and communicating data across such vast distances. This is where we are not dealing with common Internet type traffic such as HTTP/FTP/VoIP/etc but it is completely different when it comes to DSN so far. So optimizing data in DSN becomes mandatory. For example if you think one of the Mars Rovers, they have used LZO lossless compression.

TOFFEE-Mocha WAN Emulation software development - Update: 20-Oct-2016 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
I was doing some specific tests in my TOFFEE and TOFFEE-DataCenter (WAN optimization) scenarios such as variable upload and download speeds. And I was also doing some experiments with speedtest.net and I did some of these tests with TOFFEE-Mocha. I realized there is a case that I can introduce asymmetric constant delays so that you can get different download speed and a different upload speed. And in some cases much faster download speeds and relatively slower upload speeds.
