NEWS & UPDATES 》 First TOFFEE-Butterscotch Code Release

TOFFEE-Butterscotch is a variant of TOFFEE can be used to save and optimize your Home/SOHO Internet/WAN bandwidth. Unlike TOFFEE (and TOFFEE-DataCenter) TOFFEE-Butterscotch is a non peer-to-peer (and asymmetric) network optimization solution. This makes TOFFEE-Butterscotch an ideal tool for all Home and SOHO users.

Here are my TOFFEE-Butterscotch software development updates which I posted earlier:

As a part of its first release these are the list of features supported:

  • Throttle: tcp (LAN to WAN traffic which is unidirectional)
  • Throttle: Torrent traffic (bidirectional)
  • Filter: incoming TCP-syn packets, ICMP (bidirectional) packets, and Torrent (bidirectional) packets
  • Monitor: network bandwidth usage report
  • Monitor: live performance stats
  • Alerts: Filter packets

NOTE: This is the first release of TOFFEE-Butterscotch open-source Bandwidth saver software. Currently as one can understand the features supported in the same is quite limited. But in future you should get more and more features being supported in the same. If you need any specific features, you can post your new feature requests to me, and if they are plausible they should get supported in the same eventually.

Multi-dimensional (Multi-universe) Internet Technology - A Proposal ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Currently what we have is a single homogeneous (sort of) WWW Internet. Which we can consider as a single-dimensional network. What I propose is that we can create complete independent multiple Internets with each Internet having its own IP-address space, Domain namespace and an authority to manage Domain names. And these networks/Internets can be entirely IPv4 only based or IPv6 only based.

Today I got a feature request from Jonathan Withers. Jonathan is from a company called MultiWave Australia. He said he is able to get the TOFFEE-Mocha Raspberry Pi setup up and with that he is able to emulate geostationary satellite link. But he requested me is there a way to extend the constant packet delay from 40mS to 500mS. So as a part of his request I supported the same in the current ongoing development version of TOFFEE-Mocha.

TOFFEE-Mocha WAN Emulation software development - Update: 20-Oct-2016 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
I was doing some specific tests in my TOFFEE and TOFFEE-DataCenter (WAN optimization) scenarios such as variable upload and download speeds. And I was also doing some experiments with speedtest.net and I did some of these tests with TOFFEE-Mocha. I realized there is a case that I can introduce asymmetric constant delays so that you can get different download speed and a different upload speed. And in some cases much faster download speeds and relatively slower upload speeds.

TOFFEE (and TOFFEE-DataCenter) optimized Mobile Wireless Backhaul Networks ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
TOFFEE can be used to optimize expensive Wireless backhaul network infrastructure. TOFFEE can be deployed over existing slow or often outdated old backhaul networks too. This will leverage mobile ISPs and network service providers to reduce their bulk IT CapEx and OpEx Costs.
