NEWS & UPDATES 》 TOFFEE-Mocha WAN Emulation software development - Update: 20-Oct-2016

I was doing some specific tests in my TOFFEE and TOFFEE-DataCenter (WAN optimization) scenarios such as variable upload and download speeds. And I was also doing some experiments with speedtest.net and I did some of these tests with TOFFEE-Mocha. I realized there is a case that I can introduce asymmetric constant delays so that you can get different download speed and a different upload speed. And in some cases much faster download speeds and relatively slower upload speeds.

What I did in this version is that I extended the constant delay feature of TOFFEE-Mocha. Added a new variable to enable or disable the overall constant delay factor. So with this option you can now completely enable the constant delay or completely disable the same. It will still contain the old milli-seconds and micro-seconds delay which will add constant delay for each packet irrespective of its direction. And along with that it will include the new upload milli-seconds, micro-seconds and download milli-seconds, micro-seconds delay variables which will add delay respectively to upload/uplink (LAN to WAN) packets and download/downlink (WAN to LAN) packets.

If you set any of these (upload/download) delay parameters along with standard delay (milli-seconds, micro-seconds) then it is going to be a summation of overall delay. So from this version of TOFFEE-Mocha it is going to have a distinct LAN port and a distinct WAN port unlike earlier versions. If you see in my earlier documents (as well as news updates) I mentioned in the user guide stating that: "IMPORTANT NOTE: Since TOFFEE-Mocha device is a WAN emulator device you can configure any port as LAN port and WAN port. Swapping LAN and WAN ports in your deployment will not cause any issues." But not a case anymore starting from this version which should be released very soon.

Here is my screenshot of the same (which is still in development):

So this way you can add asymmetric delays which is a great tool when you are doing systematic tests and research scenarios such as fine-tuning your WAN Optimization device, a network test lab setup, investigating TCP acceleration parameters, TCP optimization and things like that. Strangely with some experiments with TOFFEE-Mocha I have even managed to get better TCP performance and ratings in my speedtest.net test results. Since essentially I am finding ways to optimize TCP Window scaling and make packet drop happen within LAN and self adjust TCP window/throttle rather than packets getting dropped in the WAN network (or Internet). Not only this will save your bandwidth but with this technique it may improve overall end-to-end network performance and higher bandwidth rates.

If you have any feature requests expected to be supported on TOFFEE-Mocha software you can kindly send me your ideas and suggestions.

Here is my Youtube VLOG of the same:

Multi-dimensional (Multi-universe) Internet Technology - A Proposal ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Currently what we have is a single homogeneous (sort of) WWW Internet. Which we can consider as a single-dimensional network. What I propose is that we can create complete independent multiple Internets with each Internet having its own IP-address space, Domain namespace and an authority to manage Domain names. And these networks/Internets can be entirely IPv4 only based or IPv6 only based.

Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
I started working on the new TOFFEE project (which is the fork of my earlier TrafficSqueezer open-source project) starting from 1st January 2016 onwards. Ever since I was busy in research and altering certain old features so that it is more minimal than TrafficSqueezer, a more focused agenda, deliver refined code and a broader vision. I have lined up more things to follow in the upcoming months. I want to focus about all aspects of WAN communication technologies not just on core WAN Optimization research and technology.

Optimization of network data (WAN Optimization) at various levels ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
WAN Network data can be optimized at various levels depending upon the network applications, protocols, topology and use-cases. So the amount of data you can optimize will depend on the strategy you choose to optimize. Such as: Network Packet level optimization, Session level optimization, File level optimization, etc.

Now I supported and finished complete GUI support of these parameters so that you can configure, store, reboot and the same will restore upon reboot. Besides I complete the TOFFEE-Mocha Big-Picture page. The Big picture is an interface where you can find all the configuration (or settings) of the TOFFEE-Mocha. This is almost similar to CISCO device show all command but in graphical representation. Sometimes a network admin can also print the Big Picture page and paste it near to the device to refer its settings.

Live demo - Data Transfer - High bandwidth to Low bandwidth ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
I always wanted to do some real experiments and research on packet flow patterns from High-bandwidth to Low-bandwidth networks via networking devices. This is something can be analyzed via capturing Network stack buffer data and other parameters, bench-marking, and so on. But eventually the data-transfer nature and other aspects is often contaminated due to the underlying OS and the way Network stack is implemented. So to understand the nature of packet flow from Higher to Lower bandwidth and vice-versa such as Lower to higher bandwidth, I thought I experiment with various tools and things which physically we can observe this phenomena.

Ever since after I launched my new The TOFFEE Project website on 1-May'2016, I can see there is a steep increase in traffic. Soon after the launch when I monitored its Alexa rankings it was reporting about 12 Million or so. But once it is getting more and more traffic the Alexa rankings shot up and now currently it shows around 2 Million (as on 22-July-2016). Alexa is an excellent tool to monitor your overall website global ranking and indirectly its performance. Unlike Google Analytics which is bound one or other way into Google's SEO. Alexa gives you a second opinion about your website's growth.
