DOCUMENTATION 》 TOFFEE-DataCenter with GlusterFS Storage Cluster

TOFFEE-DataCenter with GlusterFS Storage Cluster: GlusterFS Storage Cluster (cloud storage) is a distributed cluster network-attached storage file system often used in cloud computing, streaming media services, and content delivery networks (CDN). GlusterFS can be implemented as file-based mirroring and replication, file-based striping, file-based load balancing, volume failover, scheduling and disk caching, storage quotas, and volume snapshots. And this can span across tens and hundreds of servers. GlusterFS is open-source, incredibly powerful, easy to scale and relatively easy to setup and because of these reasons the biggest players in IT world such as Facebook, and many others are building their entire IT storage infrastructure with GlusterFS. With TOFFEE-DataCenter you can optimize huge data volumes of GlusterFS servers connected between the main data-center(s) and remotely connected remote disaster recovery site(s) as shown below.

For example here is TOFFEE-DataCenter (or TOFFEE) optimized ISP networks(tunnels) between countries. In this case there is an ISP in Libya having slow backbone Internet, hence he can establish a TOFFEE based optimized tunnel between Romania Data-center (having high-speed internet) and Libya. Similarly there is another ISP in Argentina is able to boost his backbone Internet services by establishing a tunnel between his ISP and US West-Coast (California) Data-center. For more details click HERE.

ISPs can also build multiple TOFFEE optimized tunnels for redundancy, load-share, etc. And in this case the ISP in Argentina established two tunnels. One between Argentina ISP to US West-Coast (California) Data-center and the other between Argentina ISP Romania Data-center as shown below.

Communication data network standards and data transfer speeds :: Chart ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Here is a complete chart comprising popular communication data network standards and their respective transfer rates. I hope this reference chart will help network engineers and network software developers while performing networking tests and experiments, building WAN/network products, building WAN simulated networks of a specific standard and so on. This may also helps us to track technological advancements of communication data networks.

The TOFFEE Project :: TOFFEE-Butterscotch :: Save and Optimize your Internet/WAN bandwidth ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
TOFFEE-Butterscotch is an open-source software which can be used to save and optimize your Internet/WAN bandwidth. Unlike TOFFEE (and TOFFEE-DataCenter) TOFFEE-Butterscotch is a non peer-to-peer (and asymmetric) network optimization solution. This makes TOFFEE-Butterscotch an ideal tool for all Home and SOHO users.

Why TOFFEE is forked from TrafficSqueezer ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
TrafficSqueezer is an open-source WAN Optimization project. TrafficSqueezer is mainly a research project which is started around mid-2006. It is initially started as a research (or prototype) code even before it is officially registered in But this code is just primitive user-space raw socket modules. This is later refined and a pre-alpha version is created. Followed by which Alpha release. This prototype code is moved from user-space to Linux Kernel (Kernel Space) and then the journey begin in terms of making a serious WAN Optimization solution. Once the pre-beta and beta releases are complete the mainstream series is started.

Building my own CDN - Minify Script files - Update: 23-July-2016 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
One of the suggestions Google PageSpeed Insights tool suggested for The TOFFEE Project website is to minify the css and java script files. Minify Script files: When you read online about minification of your web script files, often they highlight file size savings and thus resulting faster download time and better website performance.

TOFFEE-Mocha WAN Emulation software development - Update: 19-July-2016 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Today I refined the first page consolidated report graphs. TOFFEE-Mocha (unlike TOFFEE) is a WAN Emulator, so the graphs are supposed to highlight this purpose and should display the overall network activity. Unlike TOFFEE, the TOFFEE-Mocha report should contain in general what is received versus what is sent across the wire. In case if the packet drop feature is enabled, you should see few missing bytes and packets. Similarly in future I may support packet duplication feature, in that case you may see more packets/bytes sent versus the packets/bytes actually received.

CDN Hosting ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
It is quite interesting that there are few web hosting firms are offering direct CDN based hosting services. Since it is a direct CDN based hosting, it is cheap, extremely easy or transparent CDN service. It is transparent, since each time you publish your content in the hosting web-server (origin server), it is immediately is in sync automatically in the user-serving CDN caching machines. Since the hosting vendor and the CDN vendor are all the same, it is also easy to use their services. There is no incompatibility issues, interoperability issues, and better integrated analytics, are all the benefits of CDN Hosting services.
